Tree Planting at Waitahuna

Tree planting at Waitahuna

On Tuesday I went to Waitahuna to go and do electric fishing and planting flaxes on Nick’s farm. Room 4 and room 7 went too. We left school at 9.30 we got back at 12.30. Some parents and Mrs May and Marie were there. Rachel and Grant Murray, Craig Simpson from Landcare, Keiran and Angus (the electric fisherman) met us at the farm.
Matt from Department of Conservation and Glenn from the Sinclair Wetlands showed us how to plant the flaxes and how to take them out of the bag carefully. 2 ladies from the Otago Regional Council helped us with the planting too.We got into a group of three children and one adult to dig our holes and plant our flaxes. The classes planted around 250.
We saw some eels that were in a big black bucket. Keiran and Angus had put out a trap overnight and caught the eel. One of the eels was a tiny lamprey eel, and it was swimming around the side of a little bucket.
It was awesome!!!
